Creating an Index
· To explore the Index Server environment
  1. Open the C:\Inetpub\Catalog.wci folder. How many files are in this folder?
  2. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del and then click the Task Manager button. Click the Processes tab. The name of the Index Server process is cidaemon.exe. Is Index Server running?
  3. Close Task Manager

//· To issue a query
  1. On the Start menu click Run. The Run dialog box appears
  2. Type iexplore //ServerX/IISSamples/queryhit.htm in the Open box. Internet Explorer displays a query form
  3. Click Favorites and then Add to Favorites
  4. Click OK
  5. In the Enter your query below box type tcp port
  6. Click Execute Query. This query uses Index Server to search the Index. The results page indicates there are several matching documents. //

Administering Index Server
· To add new documents to the corpus
  1. Start Internet Service Manager
  2. Right click Default Web Site. A pop-up menu appears
  3. Point to Create New and then click Virual Directory. The New Virtual Directory Wizard appears
  4. Type lab9 in the text box and then click Next
  5. Verify that Allow Read Access is selected and then click Finish. Index Server will automatically detect the creation of the new virtual root directory lab9 and mark it for indexing
  6. Minimize Internet Service Manager

· To force a rescan of the virtual roots
  1. Open Control Panel
  2. Double click Services
  3. Click Content Index and then click Stop. You will be prompted to stop the Content Index Service
  4. Click Yes. A message box informs you that the Content Index Service is stopping
  5. Click Start. A message box informs you that the Content Index Service is starting

· To check the index status using Performance Monitor
  1. On the Start menu point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools and then click Performance Monitor
  2. Press Ctrl + R to display the Report view
  3. Click the plus(+) button to add counters to the report. The Add To Report dialog box appears
  4. In the Object list click Content Index
  5. In the Counters list select all the counters and click Add
  6. Click Done. Performance Monitor displays the index status. Check PM frequently to determine if the indexing process has been completed

· To check the index status using Internet Explorer
  1. On the Start menu click Run. The Run dialog box appears
  2. Type iexplore //ServerX/IISadmin/ISadmin/admin.htm in the Open box. IE displays the Index Server Administration page
    Note: If the previous step fails with an HTTP 500 error then perform the following steps:

    • Open Control Panel
    • Double click Services
    • Select IIS Admin Service
    • Click Stop
    • Select World Wide Web Services
    • Click Start
    • Close the Services dialog box
    • Repeat step 2

  3. Click Favorites and then click Add to Favorites. The Add to Favorites dialog box appears
  4. Click OK
  5. Look for Index Statistics and click the corresponding Start button. The administration page displays two sets of statistics: cache and index statistics
  6. Scroll down to view the index statistics. If the message "Index is up to date" appears, then the indexing process is complete. With "Index is not up to date" appears, then the indexing process is still active
  7. If the number of Wordlists is greater than 0 click Force Master Merge. This optimizes the search capabilities of Index Server

· To post
  1. In Internet Explorer click Favorites and then click Index Server Search Form. IE starts and displays a query form
  2. Under Other Query Samples click Advanced ASP Query Form and then click Go. The advanced query page appears
  3. In the Enter your query below box type smith
  4. Click Execute
  5. Scroll down to view the results
  6. Open the first document by clicking on the title
  7. Under the description of the first document click Show Highlights (condensed)
  8. How can you determine the search term?
  9. Click Back
  10. Under the description of the first document click Show Highlights (full text). What is the difference between step 7 result and step 10 result?
  11. How do you go to the first hit in the document?
  12. How do you go to the next hit in the document?
  13. How do you go to the previous hit in the document?
  14. Click Back until the Sample Query page appears
  15. Click Clear
  16. In the Where the document author is box, type smith
  17. Click Execute
  18. Scroll down to view the results. The result page indicates that several document matched the query "smith"
  19. Are these the same documents that appeared in the content query?
  20. Close IE //

Implementing and Testing Security Features
· To create the user accounts
  1. In the User Manager for Domains create two user accounts with following information:

    (User 1)

    User name: Megan

    Full name: blank

    Description: blank

    Password: megan

    User Must Change Password at Next Log on: clear


    (User 2)

    User name: Laurel

    Full name: blank

    Description: blank

    Password: laurel

    User Must Change Password at Next Log on: clear


  2. Close Windows NT User Manager

· To change security permissions on a confidential file
  1. Start Windows NT Explorer and click the c:\Lab09 folder
  2. Open the Confidential folder
  3. Right click Security.doc and then click properties. The Properties dialog box appears
  4. Click the Security tab
  5. Click Permissions. The File Permissions dialog box appears
  6. Click Add. The Add Users and Groups dialog box appears
  7. Click Show Users
  8. Scroll down the list of users and click Laurel and Megan
  9. Click Add. Megan and Laurel are added to the Add Names list
  10. Click OK. The File Permissions dialog box appears
  11. Click Laurel
  12. In the Type of Access list click No Access. The dialog box shows that laurel has no access
  13. Click OK twice

· To enable security on Internet Information Server
  1. Start Internet Service Manager
  2. Open the Default Web Site Properties dialog box
  3. Click the Security Directory tab
  4. Click Edit in the Password Authentication Method box
  5. Use the following information:

    Allow Anonumous: Disabled

    Basic (Clear Text): Enabled

    Windows NT Challenge/Response: Disabled


  6. Click OK twice
  7. Minimize Internet Service Manager
  8. // In IE click Favorites and then click Index Server Administration
  9. Scroll down to Index Statistics and click Start button
  10. Scroll down to Index Statistics and click Force Master Merge

· To test the security of Index Server
  1. Close all instances of Internet Explorer
  2. Start IE, click Favorites and then click Index Server Search Form. The Basic Authentication dialog box appears
  3. Type Laurel in the User name box and type laurel in the Password box
  4. Click OK
  5. In the Enter your query below box type confidential document
  6. Click Execute Query. Index Server returns no documents. Laurel is not given any indication that Security.doc exists
  7. Close IE
  8. Start IE click Favorites and then click Index Server Search Form. The Basic Authentication dialog box appears
  9. Type Megan in the User name box and type megan in the Password box
  10. Click OK
  11. In the Enter your query below box type confidential document
  12. Click Execute Query. Index Server should return the document Security.doc
  13. Close Internet Explorer

· To restore password autentication settings on the WWW service
  1. Start Internet Service Manager
  2. Open the Default Web Site Properties dialog box
  3. Click the Directory Security tab
  4. Click Edit in the Password Authentication Method box
  5. Use the following information:

    Allow Anonumous: Enabled

    Basic (Clear Text): Disabled

    Windows NT Challenge/Response: Enabled


  6. Click OK twice
  7. Close Internet Service Manager
    Note: Copy \lab10\WEBSITE to \WEBSITE on your c: drive and install Site Analyst. The lab uses a fictional scenario. You must correct some problems

Working with Quick Search
  1. Determine why a significant percentage of the pages on the site take too long to download
  2. Click Tools point to Quck Search and then click LoadSize Over 32K
  3. Determine how the legal team can verify that all external sites that have links from this site meet the company's ethical standards
  4. Click Tools point to Quck Search and then click Non-Home Site Objects

Working with Link Properties
· To determine which one of the links is mislabeled
  1. Right click Earth
  2. Click Links
  3. Click InLinks
  4. Scroll down to find the one link not associated with Earth
  5. Click Close

· To determine if page accesibility is a factor in why the special offer is generating an unexpecedly low amount of user interest
  1. Navigate the following route: HOME PAGE, EARTH, PLACES, THE ISLAND OF KAUA'I, ACTIVITIES ON KAUA'I
  2. Right click Activities on Kaua'i
  3. Select Links from the pop-up menu. The InLinks radio button is selected. The Web Manager may wish to consider building some alternate routes
  4. Close the Link Info For window

Insuring Link Functionality
· To determine if there are broken internal links on the site
  1. Click Tools and then click Generate Site Reports
  2. Click OK. Internet Explorer displays the Site Summary report. Examine Status Summary box
  3. Close IE

· To find and fix a broken link
  1. Switch back to Site Server Express-Site Analyst
  2. Click Tools, point to Quick Search and click Broken Links
  3. Start Windows NT Explorer
  4. Open the c:\website images folder. Notice that the image file exist but it has a spelling error
  5. Change the file name
  6. Close Windows NT Explorer //
